Mickey Skidmore, ACSW is the founder of "Turning Points" Counseling Center, Inc. and has served as its President & Executive Director since 1989. His practice is currently based in Hickory, North Carolina. Mickey received his MSW from East Carolina University in 1986. He has been a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers since 1989. He has been a certified/licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina since 1988. He has also been licensed to practice in South Carolina (Licensed Independent Social Worker; 1996-1998). In the 1990's he was granted privileges in two hospitals. In addition to maintaining a private practice since 1989, he has served as an Adjunct Professor with several private and community colleges since 1989.
Mickey has 17+ years of post master's experience as a Clinical Social Worker in both the public and private sectors, in both in-patient nad out-patient levels of care; as a professor at the college and/or graduate level for more than 10 years; as an administrator/manager in acute care psychiatric hospital settings; as a teacher/trainer of mental health professionals; and as a private practice consultant.
During his time in the Hickory/Charlotte area, Mickey has served as the Clinical Director of Psychiatric Social Services at Frye Regional Medical Center from 1997 -- 2001. He was also named President of the Catawba Valley Association of Counselors & Therapists (CVACT) for the December 1998-99 term. In addition to his private practice, he has also been working as a Clinical Social Work Specialist with Counseling Services of Catawba County Since February of 2002.
